And We are Back…

We are back from a 4 day trip to Asheville.  Happy for our own beds and our own food but I could have stayed there a few days longer.  Four days just didn’t seem long enough.  I am glad that next years vacation will be a week…but we had to save time for Justin to take off when baby comes….(Warning.  I have posted a ton of pictures…and would have posted more…)

Asheville.  A beautiful town in the mountains.  We stayed in a little cabin called the Silver Moon.  Not quite the location we had imagined but a lovely little place…clean, cozy and very pretty.

We walked the town over and over again…

Browsed through many quaint little shops with clothes, jewelry, and paper goods made by local artists.

Took pictures of pretty alleyways…

We went antiquing and Cora was such a sport.  If you are ever in Asheville there are tons of antique stores….we had a blast wondering amidst all the cool stuff.  I walked away only buying some wooden spindles.  I know, I’m a weirdo.

And because Cora was such a good little girl we bought her a toy and umbrella at a local toy store…such a kid friendly place. She has named it her “open door” toy.

And we ate.  We ate, and ate, and ate…I think I enjoyed the free range, organic, gluten free, local, grain fed and vegetable filled food a lot more than Justin.

But on the second to last day Justin was happy as we found a local pizza place with the very best pizza.

And Cora finally had her beloved “sghetti.”

That was probably our very best day.

We had delicious coffee at a local place that was a double decker bus (called Double D’s…) converted into a coffee shop…

We listened to street music…people dancing in the park, smiling, laughing….

And our baby loved it.

We went hiking in the mountains along the Blue Ridge parkway.  The overlooks are breathtaking.

We were determined to hike while in Asheville so we did…it was foggy and rainy.  I was freezing cold, we were all soaked, our shoes were ruined…but we did it!  And on the way down we were able to see the mountains as all that the mist and fog had lifted.  It was worth putting up with all the nasty weather.

And Cora loved the tunnels.  Every single one was a new experience.

Sunday was the day we were leaving and our plan was to visit the Biltmore.  We thought they would allow us to tour the grounds but we would have to pay $69 per person even if we did not go through the house…I cannot even imagine the horror of trying to tour the Biltmore with a toddler…at least our toddler…I can imagine that it would be a nightmare.  So we left without even getting a glimpse of the house.  Some day we will see it.  We were disappointed so we decided to spend our last hours visiting the botanical gardens.  Not only were they free but they were beautiful.  Winding paths and bridges…people out walking their dogs and running. We were able to let Cora burn some energy before the drive home.

And here we are, home again.  Asheville was so worth it…we loved every minute…and tomorrow we are back to routine…back to reality.  Hope you enjoyed a glimpse of our little vacation.
