The New Old Kitchen…The Finished Product

Hello from the land of insomnia, frantic nesting, birthday party preparation…and A BRAND “new” KITCHEN! As of last night we are finally finished our biggest project so far (Other than all the work Justin originally put into the house)  It’s been over a year that we started to plan and save and now we are finished.  Our inexpensive but amazingly transformative project.  Oh I love it…love, love, LOVE IT!

As you may remember our kitchen used to look like this.

Let me introduce you to our new/old kitchen…Bright, cheerful and so much better!

Here  is my baby…a $50 craigslist purchase that only needed a coat of paint plus a new piece of wood underneath.

So perfectly beautiful with her enamel top…loving the little bit of retro.

See those curtains?  I bought two panels from Ikea and we cut one panel into four small curtains and then fabric glued each one to size.  We used a little twine to tie them up…(I cannot sew and therefore fabric glue is one of my favorite things to use).

They are so far from perfect but for some reason I like a little imperfection…

The built-ins and bottom cabinets were painted Ellie Gray (Sherwin Williams) the paneling and upper cabinets were painted white.  I cannot remember the name of the wall color we chose.

The flooring Justin bought for a ridiculously inexpensive price…one of the advantages for working for a major flooring company.  We love it…although it does not match the rest of our hardwood it looks surprisingly good.  Our brother-in-law installed it for us and did an amazing job.

Justin removed some of the cabinets to make a desk area.  Now I can surf the internet in the kitchen but also have a space to store craft supplies and other miscellaneous items.

Here and there I have collected, been given or inherited little knick-knacks that I love to display.

Some with very sentimental value…

I know it’s a picture overload but I am tired and I don’t want to spend the time figuring out which one is the nicest…I posted them in the hopes that they would do the kitchen justice.

I hope to be back to blog Saturday as my sweet girl turns 2.  A bittersweet day as I feel she is growing way too fast.  I cannot wait to celebrate her day of birth…our beautiful blessing.

Grace — your kitchen is BEAUTIFUL! I love white and grey. I adore the enamel retro Island (SCORE!) and I feel like I could spend a good afternoon admiring all your pretty things. I also have been meaning to tell you how much I love your artwork and how sentimental it is. Such a blessing! I don’t have any artists in the family (at least none that have gifted me with their art!) but I have been blessed with a few special things from my mom and Grandma and I treasure them.

You have a real gift for making a home. And you seem pretty speedy at it, too. Your home seems so much more ‘finished’ then mine and we’ve been here just over a year now — I’m pretty impatient.

Oh, girl!! It looks wonderful! I absolutely love how light and airy your kitchen is now, and those curtains are PERFECT! And your computer desk/station is awesome, love those old RC cola crates. Happy beleted birthday to your sweet girly. Time does go so fast, I’m amazed every time. How is it being a mother can make the day feel like eternity yet the weeks and months a blink of an eye?
